Statement from our Muhtar (Elected Village Headman)
It is now a little over a year since we came into office on 29th March 2009. Before we started our 5 year term we promised certain things.
Of these we started work on the new village centre building and we will finish it this year.
We re-
Houses in some neighbourhoods have been given protection against the possibility of flooding.
We have started work cleaning the area opposite the forestry fire station where there is a copse of frankincense trees in order to make a village park.
We have permission from the Forestry and Specially Protected Area Administrations to dredge the remaining half of the canal and are waiting for the machine.
We have taken the necessary precautions to enable our orchards and crops to continue to be watered. Our wish is that this problem will be resolved this year.
You know the monetary problems that our office inherited. We are waiting for the outcome from the court.
We have paid 5000TL to the water corporation and the Forestry Administration. We have renewed the public address system.
When we came into office we would have reduced the price of water to 50 kurus a tonne but we discovered that there was a debt of 15000TL for unpaid electricity for delivery of drinking water and the electricity was about to be cut.
In order to pay this debt we haven’t gone back on our word; we have paid this bill and the price reduction will follow as soon as conditions allow. We hope you understand our position on this topic.

Okçular Book Project
A new book dedicated to walking and cycling is now available; ‘Backways & Trackways’ is created to the highest possible standards on laminated card and spiral bound it is well suited to the rigours of the outdoors. Priced at TL20 it is exceptional value for money. All of the funds raised goes back into the village and your support is appreciated.
You can help by:
buying more copies of ‘Okçular Village -
encouraging those you know to get copies;
pointing everyone you know towards this website where they can find out about Okçular and what the Book Project is all about. Every little bit helps.
Thanks, Alan
